Community Day Programs

Meaningful and age-appropriate community inclusion in three unique services

Gateway Center’s Community Day Programs meet the diverse needs of individuals we serve with inclusive, age-appropriate, and interest-based activities.

Each of the three daytime programs promotes independence, choice, and personal growth, while encouraging meaningful community participation, healthy routines, and social connection.

Senior Day Program

Senior Day Program

Program Overview

The Senior Day Program at the Salinas Senior Center provides a welcoming space for older adults who prefer recreational, social, and age-appropriate activities similar to those enjoyed by non-disabled seniors.

Regardless of their individual challenges, ethnicity, socio-economic, religious beliefs or medical needs, older persons with developmental disabilities are valued, respected, and integrated in natural senior activities.

Program Goals, include:

  • To teach skills and enhance the individual’s participation in the community and awareness of safety in the community.

  • To teach and encourage appropriate social and emotional behaviors, develop the individual’s communication skills, and enable the individual to function successfully in a group setting.

  • To promote and maintain physical development, fitness, and strength.

Program Features

  • A welcoming and supportive space for seniors with developmental disabilities.

  • Community integrated activities, as well as center-based activities.

  • A variety of social experiences in a supportive environment, such as enjoying lunch out, playing games, creating art, listening to live music, shopping, and more.

Our Senior Day Program is grounded in the belief that older persons with developmental disabilities are entitled to achieving and maintaining a fulfilling and meaningful life.

How to Enroll

Work with our community partners to get the services you need.

  • Contact Your Regional Center

Contact your Regional Center, or the San Andreas Regional Center if you live in the Monterey Bay Region, to verify your loved one’s eligibility for services. Your Service Coordinator will help determine which Gateway Center services are the right fit.

  • Complete the Referral Process

Once the appropriate program is identified, your Regional Center Service Coordinator will assist you with the official referral process to secure placement. We will then collaborate with you and your coordinator to ensure a smooth transition into our services.

  •  Reach Out and Explore

If you have any questions, contact the Gateway Center team directly at 831-372-8002 or Info@gatewaycenter.org. We are happy to discuss our available services and schedule a personalized tour of our main campus.

No. While Gateway Center primarily serves individuals from Monterey County, we may also support individuals from other counties or states. However, referrals for services must be coordinated through San Andreas Regional Center (SARC) and are subject to eligibility requirements, funding authorization, and service availability. Individuals interested in Gateway Center services who are currently served by another Regional Center should work with their Service Coordinator to explore available options and pathways.
