Wrapping Up Disability Awareness Month: A Resolution from the Board of Supervisors

A Final Moment to Celebrate

As we wrap up Disability Awareness Month, we have one more moment to celebrate. On March 24, Gateway Center of Monterey County was honored to receive a Resolution from the County of Monterey Board of Supervisors. We want to extend a special thank you to Chair Wendy Root Askew for her leadership in bringing this resolution forward and for her support of Gateway Center.

Highlighting Independence and Inclusion

Advocating for our community on a county level is a vital part of our mission. During the ceremonial resolution, our Executive Director Mike González joined Whitney Clark, a person with lived experience and Gateway Center participant, and Lisa Hartley of San Andreas Regional Center. Together, they took the opportunity to highlight the importance of ensuring people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have independence, choice, access to resources, and connection to their community.

A Shared Commitment to Dignity

The moment was captured in a powerful group photo alongside Gateway Center’s leadership team, WOW (Without Walls) participants, and the full Board of Supervisors—reflecting a shared commitment to advancing dignity, belonging, and access for all.
