On July 17, Gateway Center partnered with Save Our Shores for a community beach cleanup at Carmel Beach, bringing together more than 30 individuals and employees for a morning of service, connection, and environmental stewardship.
Giving Back at Carmel Beach
Individuals from Gateway Center’s Day Programs were eager to give back to their community. Equipped with buckets and trash pickers, participants and employees worked together in small groups to collect trash along one of Monterey County’s most beautiful stretches of coastline.
The Carmel Beach cleanup provided an opportunity to make a positive environmental impact while building connections, enjoying the outdoors, and having fun together.

Community Inclusion in Action
At Gateway Center, we believe meaningful community inclusion is about more than being present in the community. It means creating opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to participate, contribute, and make a difference. The Carmel Beach cleanup gave participants an opportunity to make a positive environmental impact while building connections, enjoying the outdoors, and having fun together.
Partnerships with organizations like Save Our Shores help make those experiences possible while connecting the individuals we support with the broader Monterey County community. The beach cleanup was part of a three-part summer partnership with Save Our Shores focused on environmental stewardship, education, and community engagement.
Sincere Thanks!
We are grateful to Save Our Shores for their partnership to the individuals and employees who helped make the day such a success.
